[1900]. - 16 words penned in black ink on a textured note card, approximately 3-1/2 inches high by 4-1/2 inches wide, with his address printed in raised lettering at top right. Signed "Alfred Sutro". There is a small area of light blue staining around the address. Very good.

Sutro writes that he cannot accept an invitation as "I've a long-standing engagement ..."

Alfred Sutro OBE [1863-1933] was an English author, playwright and translator. In addition to a succession of successful plays of his own in the first quarter of the twentieth century, he made the first English translations of works by Maeterlinck. Very good .
