From the library of A. F. Roessler. Laid in is an ALS in French from the author signed "G." [i.e. Gustave] written on a postcard and addressed to A.F. Roessler in London.
The recipient, Armandus Ferdinand Roessler, was born in the town of Havre in 1845. He was the author of a series of journals, illustrated with drawings in ink and pencil, which were written in the last half of the nineteenth century and briefly taken up again between 1901 and 1910. The journals proved to be a treasure trove of information on the history, archaeology and architecture of Havre. They were improbably retrieved from a London trash can and are now preserved in the Bibliotheque muncipale du Havre.
Also laid in are three copies of a two-page leaflet announcing the publication of the Charles Roessler's book.
