Description: [London]: September 23rd, circa [1870s]. [1870s]. - 47 words penned in black ink on a card approximately 3-1/2 inches high by 4-1/2 inches wide. Signed "W. Kuhe". The card is lightly soiled & scraps of gray paper adhere to the verso where it has been removed from an album. Good.

Apparently in the process of preparing a concert program, Kuhe writes to a Mr. Mayer: "I shall put down all three Hungarian songs for Mr. Plunkett Green in a good position with Mr. Baird's name as accompanist. Kindly let me have the words as well as those of Jess Macfarlane at your earliest convenience."

Born and trained in Prague, Czech pianist William Kuhe [1823-1912] visited England for the first time at the age of 22. Two years later he returned there as accompanist to the great singer Jenny Lind. In 1871, he established the Brighton music festival, aiming, he wrote, "to emulate the example of Mr. Manns at Sydenham, and produce, whenever the opportunity presented itself, works by English composers". He ran the festival until 1882. Good .
