Beginning in 1855 with "New York Weekly", Street & Smith published a huge number of weeklies, magazines, comics, annuals and hardcover and paperback series, including detective and crime stories, westerns and romances. They gave Theodore Dreiser his first job as a writer, paying him $15 a week, and later made him editor of Smith's Magazine at $60 a week. Reynolds recounts the history of the company and the writers who worked for it. Very good .
