Inscribed by the author on the half-title: "For Gladys L. Cargill / with Oscar's happiest birthday wishes, and, of course, mine. / Yrs. Hollis". The recipient is the wife of literary critic Oscar Cargill.

Laid in is a typed poem "Notes for a Song", inscribed in ink at the top of the sheet "For the Cargills, with wishes" and signed "Hollis" at the foot of the page. Very good .
