Born in Belarus, Maurice Hindus (1891-1969) came to America with his mother and siblings and settled in New York City. He worked as a farm laborer while attending High School in North Brookfield. He earned a degree in literature from Colgate University and lectured on Russia on the Chautaugua circuit. He published his first book "The Russian Peasant and the Revolution" in 1920 and wrote articles about Russian emigres. He went back to Russia several times and spent three years there during the second World War. His book "Mother Russia" is an account of wartime conditions there. His 1953 book "Crisis in the Kremlin" presents Russian peasants in a sympathetic light. Good .
