Title: Autograph Letter Signed, Regarding a Ticket to a Concert.
Description: February 27, 1888. 1888. - sc - 25 words penned on 6-1/8 inch high by 4 inch wide light blue-gray paper. Writing to a Mr. Johnson, Mary Davies apolozies that she can only send him one ticket: "I have promised the other to another friend.." Signed "Mary Davies". Mary Davies has dated and penned an annotation "P.S. Tickets have not arrived yet" on the verso of an attached integral leaf. Folded for mailing. The close and Mary Davies' signature are very slightly smudged. There are remnants of gray scrapbook paper along the right edge of the attached leaf which barely touches the postscript. Good.

Born in Africa of Egyptian parents, the Welsh mezzo-soprano Mary Davies (1855-1930) was co-founder and first president of the Welsh Folk Song Society. A student of Edith Wynne, she won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where she studied with Alberto Randegger. She made her debut in 1873 and in 1880 sang in England's first complete performance of Berlioz's "La Damnation de Faust". She was the principal vocalist at the London Ballad Concerts and at the National Eisteddfod of 1906. Good .
