Published during May 1999, a collection of self-published poems by Bill Knott (1940-2014) whose death was, let's say, once prematurely announced by a letter from a friend which made the rounds of poets and literary magazines in 1966. A contradiction, Knott was at once self-deprecating, yet acquaintances report that they never knew how much was meant in jest. Winner of a Guggenheim and the Iowa Poetry Prize, he took pleasure in posting collages of rejection slips and played up the release of his book "The Unsubscriber" by Farrar, Straus & Giroux as a desperate last resort. And though others, including Big Table, Random House and the University of Iowa also published some of his earlier efforts, he later chose to self-publish. The internet seemed a logical outgrowth and Knott went on to distribute his work through Amazon and Lulu. Very good .
