Inscribed, signed and dated by Michael Fraenkel on the front endpaper: "To / Shirley M. Uhle / avec mes meilleures sentiments / from / the author / Michael Fraenkel / Mexico, 3rd February, 1944". The Uhles bookplate, depicting a sea horse, is mounted on the front pastedown.
Michael Fraenkel is best known for his friendship with Henry Miller, with whom he co-authored the "Hamlet Letters". Miller spent some time rooming with Fraenkel when they both lived in Paris. Fair .
