Description: London: W.E. Statham, circa [1870]. [1870]. - 16mo, 5-1/2 inches high by 3-3/4 inches wide. Green cloth titled in gilt on the front cover with formal decorations in blind on the front and rear covers. The covers are lightly bumped. There is some minor bubbling to the cloth of the front cover and a small stain to the rear cover. 38 pages, plus a 36-page illustrated catalog, with title page vignettes, and profuse textual illustrations. The text block is cracked opposite the catalog's title page. Good.

The thirty-first edition, so stated, yet RARE. [WorldCat locates only 1 copy of any and all editions].

The title page to the 36-page illustrated catalog is titled "A Catalog of Chemical Cabinets, Portable Laboratories, Electrical, and Scientific Apparatus, Manufactured and Sold by William E. Statham, Operative Chemist, Optician, and Scientific Instrument Maker.." and is illustrated with vignettes of medals indicating that Statham has won awards at the 1862 London International Exhibition and the 1867 Paris Universal Exhibition.

William Edward Statham began selling chemistry sets in 1839. He called himself a druggist and supplier of toiletries to the Royal Household. Good .
