E. Louise Mally [1908-1977] was born in Dallas, Texas. She was a graduate of Barnard College and a student of philosophy at Columbia University. Her work first drew attention with the publication of "The Mocking Bird is Singing" in 1943. This collection of her poems was from her then unpublished "Poems and Translations". Thomas McGrath writes in a prefatory note: "The poems in this sampler of E. Louise Mally's work came as a shock. They are a blend of delicacy and power, of metaphysical concern and deep personal feeling, of the world, and women-in-the-world. There is nothing quite like this work in the contemporary scene."
Scarce. Very good .
