Title: The Rural Six Nations Traditionalist Belief System: 1870-1914. / Dennis P. Foley, School of Criminal Justice, University of New York at Albany. (Offprint).
Description: N.p. 1977. 1977. - sc Small quarto [11 inches high by 8-1/2 inches wide]. Pages 19-34, mechanically reproduced & stapled at top left. Very good.

Extract from "Man in the Northeast 14: 1977". The article concerns the belief system of the Iroquois: "By 1870, the Six Nations traditionalists had become a religious minority on the Six Nations Reserve near present-day Brantford, Ontario. The traditionalist leaders synthesized the preachings of Handsome Lake which, according to the oral tradition, reached the reserve ca. 1805, with aspects of the aboriginal religion. The faithkeepers presented the Iroquois with a nativistic, symbolic guide as an alternative to the preaching of the Protestant missionaries."[From the author's Abstract].

This copy is inscribed by the author to Erastus Corning, the mayor of Albany, with the mayor's 'received" stamp in the top right corner: "To Erastus Corning: THANKS: The democrats and indians are not different . They understand loyalty / Denis". Very good .
