"Mandan", the first volume of a projected trilogy "Corps of Discovery", is based on the journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. In his letter, Roberts writes that he knows the subject will be of as much interest to Matthiessen as it was to him, and says that Matthiessen's work has greatly inspired him and has set a standard for his own work. Very good .
