Born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1928, the Latin-American artist Jorge Dumas studied at the "Taller Toras Garcia" and first exhibited his work with the Hungarian sculptor Anthony Khun in Sao Paolo, Brazil in 1946. Traveling through South America in the 1940's and 50's, he worked as a set designer, a newspaper illustrator (particularly for "El Labraso") and taught drawing and geometry. In 1959 or early 1960, he traveled to the United States and, with Carlos Paez, painted a mural at the Pan American Union Building in Washington, D.C. Traveling through Europe in the 70's, he returned to New York to open his own studio where he printed his own work as well as those of such well known artists as Peter Max, Romare Bearden, Salvador Dali, Agam, Erte, Peter Hurd, and many other major artists of the period. His work is represented in the permanent collections of many institutions throughout the United States, Europe and Latin America. Very good .
