A rare and possibly unique publication purchased from a Clearwater family member.
The Superintendant in charge of preparing these seventeenth-century records writes in his historical introduction: "The translated abstract of the Dutch records was prepared through the efforts of Hon. A. T. Clearwater, of Kingston, and others, who recognized in them a prolific source of reliable information concerning the trials and tribulations, habits and customs, of the hardy Dutch settlers of old Esopus. The Superintendant of this work is indebted to Judge Clearwater for his assistance in obtaining access to the records here indexed." The translation was made by a Mr. Veersteeg, the official translator of the Holland Society, and was completed in 1898. Very good .
