Good. - Octavo, three quarter tan calf & marbled boards with gilt-lettered leather labels between raised bands & decorations in gilt on the spines. The top edges are gilt & the endpapers are marbled. The bindings are lightly rubbed with some darkening to the leather at the extremities. Some kind of veneer has been applied to the spines & there are pieces out of the leather & out of the labels, affecting the titling. The front cover of Vol. 1 is detached. xxxviii & 434 pages; [iv] & 398 pages; xii & 399 pages; viii & 469 pages; with a 16-page publisher's catalog in each volume. Illustrated with 45 engraved plates, including a portrait frontispiece in each volume & a folding genealogical table. There is an owner's bookplate displaying a coat of arms on each front pastedown with a later owner's ink address stamp & printed address label on the preliminary blanks of each volume. The front edges of a few pages in Vol. 2 are darkened. Good.
