Description: New York: Leavitt & Allen, (1857). (1857). - Octavo, bound in pebbled green cloth titled in gilt on the spine with formal decorated frames stamped in blind on the covers. The covers are rubbed and bumped. The spine is darkened with wear to its head and tail. iv, 572 & 36 pages. The hinge is cracked opposite the table of contents and the textblock is broken in half at page 257. The volume is shaken and one page is loose. Fair.
Chapters 1 and 3 of "The Perils of Certain English Prisoners, and their Treasure in Women, Children, Silver and Jewels" which makes up the Christmas, 1857 issue, are by Dickens. These chapters are entitled "The Island of Silver-Store" and "The Rafts on the River". The second chapter "The Prison in the Woods" is by Wilkie Collins. Collins also contributed "Lazy Tour of Two Idle Apprentices" which is serialized in 5 issues of the volume. Fair .
