From the collection of Ralph Whitehead, an important figure in the arts and crafts movement in America, with his Byrdcliffe bookplate, with an illustration of an owl at top left above a depiction of Pan at bottom left. The bookplate, mounted at the bottom of the front pastedown, is adorned with the word Byrdcliffe beneath a central flora motif, with Whitehead's initials at right.
In 1903 Ralph Radcliffe Whitehead, with his wife Jane Byrd McCall and his colleagues, the artist Bolton Brown and writer Hervey White, founded the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony in the Catskill Mountain village of Woodstock, New York. Good .
