Description: Boston: William J. Reynolds, 1845. 1845. - Small quarto [7-7/8 inches high by 6-5/8 inches wide], printed green boards backed with brown cloth tape. The rear board has advertisements for Reynolds school books. The front board is bowed with soiling & small stains. There is a chip out of the cloth tape near the head of the spine. 8 pages of text plus 48 blank lined ledger pages. There is a chip out of the bottom corner of the front endpaper & there is some minor staining to the text pages. Overall, a very good copy.

First edition. Scarce in the original boards.

Educator Charles Northend was born in Newbury, Mass. in 1814. He became principal of the Epps school in Salem, Mass. and for many years was superintendant of the public schools in Danvers, Mass. and New Britain, Conn. He was president of the American Institute of Instruction in 1864 and was the author of numerous schoolbooks. Very good .
