Description: New-York: Protestant Episcopal Society for the Promotion of Evangelical Knowledge, 1854. 1854. - Small octavo [6-3/8 inches high by 4-1/4 inches wide], light brown cloth titled in gilt between gilt rules on the spine & with a vignette in gilt on the front cover & in blind on the rear cover. The binding is lightly rubbed & bumped with slight fraying to the corners. The head & tail of the spine are lightly chipped & frayed. vi & 192 pages. Illustrated with more than 40 wood-engravings in the text, some signed "N. Orr"', "Howland" and "C. B. Cogswell". There is an owner's pencil name dated 1854 on the front endpaper. A very good, attractive copy.
Among the contents of the twelve issues of this monthly magazine are a two-part article on Patagonian missionaries, a piece on the wreck of the "San Francisco", and an engraving, with commentary, of the Crystal Palace in New York City.
