A native of Tehran, Iran, Melikian studied literature at the University of Tehran. Like the heroine of this book, she came to the United States after World War II and studied creative writing at Columbia University. Her first book, a collection of stories written while she was an adolescent, was published in Iran and also appeared in Tehran's Armenian newspaper. A novel, published in Beirut in Armenian, was well received in the Armenian press throughout the world. A. R. Publishing, the publisher of this book, is a division of the Armenian Reporter, Inc.
