Title: A Steel Engraving of the 31st First Mayor of New York City
Description: 1850.Right margin a trifle wrinkled, and sl. age-toning to margins,Heathcote (1665-1721) served as the 31st mayor of New York City from 1711 to 1713. A marble statute of Heathcote stands atop the old Hall of Records at 31 Chambers Street in Manhattan. An armorial crest appears above the facsimile signature. Just below the signature it is stated: 'From the Original Painting in possession of the Rt. Rev. W. H. DeLancey Bishop of Western N.Y.'. The engraving is impressed on heavy unwatermarked paper (similar to arches paper), and the engraver is identified as V. Balch. This engraving originally appeared in the book 'The Documentary History of the State of New York', published by Weed, Parsons & Co. The engraving measures 22 x 14 cms. The oval image measures 11 x 9 cms. Facsimile of Heathcote's signature just below image. Ill.: steel engraving.
