Author: Robins, Denise Title: The Woman's Side of It
Description: London, Ivor Nicholson & Watson, 1937. 1st edition. Hardcover. pp. 317. 8vo. Our copy is bound in the publisher's woven light blue cloth with black spine lettering and is encased in the original dust jacket, with art designed by D. V. Barry. The dust jacket is not price-clipped. The book shows quite light shelf wear, and is tight, unmarked and in very good condition. The dust jacket is noticeably chipped across the top edge, with light wear across the bottom, and wear at the folds. There are a few smudges, but it is otherwise quite serviceable and in good condition. Denise Robins (1897-1985), born Denise Naomi Klein, was a prolific British romantic novelist, described by her publisher as 'Best Seller and Darling of England's Novel-Reading Public'. At the time of her death, her 160+ books had been translated into fifteen different languages and had sold over 100,000,000 copies. This title, 'The Womans Side of It' is one of her scarcest. It was re-published in 1988 in a large-print edition, but this is the first edition. The bibliography in Wikipedia does not list its publication until 1988, although it was, in fact, first published in 1937. Similarly, WorldCat does not show any publication prior to 1988, although its entry for the 1988 large-print edition shows the date of publication as '1988@1937' [sic]. Similarly, COPAC does acknowledge that the first edition was in 1937 but the holdings to which it refers all appear to be the 1988 edition. .
