Description: London, Printed for M. Jones, 1805. Second edition. Leather Bound. pp. ii, 284. 12mo. Bound in original half-leather over marbled boards. The leather is worn, and the spine is pulled at the top (but attached). The front hinge is cracked but the binding is still tight. Small printed bookplate of Rev. W. Mather affixed to front free endpaper. Contents clean and tight. Still a good copy of a fairly scarce title. Serle (1742 - 1812) was a Calvinistic writer, diarist, and British civil servant. He was under-secretary for the colonies (1772) and accompanied the British army to America during the Revolutionary War (1776-1778). Serle's 'The American Journey of Ambrose Serle, Secretary to Lord Howe 1776-1778' is a primary source in the history of the American Revolution. Our offering was first published in 1803; this is the second edition, published but a mere two years later. .
