This is the American edition, issued under an altered title and likely published in 1892 or shortly thereafter. Bound in olive-yellow cloth with gilt design to the front board blocked within a black ruled border. Edges of text block stained brown. Endpapers coloured slate blue. With 16 full-page illustrations (tissue guard frontispiece, plus 15 in the text), as in the British edition, but without the battle-plans (not called for in the list of illustrations to this edition). Boards show light wear and some soiling. Front hinge starting (but still tight) and contents slightly shaken. A few marginal smudges, else text clean and tight. A good copy. Ill.: black-&-white illustrations.
