Some scuffing, surface cracking to spines, bindings sound, contents clean and unmarked; very good-. With the bookplate of Mrs Hamilton Nisbet. This is the author's first of 34 novels, published on the heels of her controversial, highly successful, gossipy treatise "Domestic Manners of the Americans". Trollope supported her family on the income from her writing, saving them from the penury which had been impending upon their return from America. Trollope had progressive views, and an impressive intellect, but wrote mostly satire and romances in order to maintain her success and support her family. .
