The crew examined relics of Franklin's expedition at Beechey Island, but when halted by impenetrable ice in the Franklin Strait, returned to England the same year (Howgego III, p.298-299). This expedition was also an attempt to reach the magnetic pole in Baffin Bay and Lancaster Sound, and also to navigate the Northwest Passage. - (Library stamp on title-page). Tiele 1111.
