Description: (No place, ca. 1656). Engraving depicting the marble grave memorial with naval battle scene designed by Willem de Keyser and Rombout Verhulst, after Van Kampen by A. Sioertsma. With 4 line poem. Ca. 46,5 x 32 cm. Jan / Johan van Galen (1604 -1653) was mortally wounded during the naval Battle of Livorno / Leghorn which took place on 4 March 1653 during the First Anglo-Dutch War, near Livorno, Italy. It was a victory of a Dutch fleet under Commodore Johan van Galen over an English squadron under Captain Henry Appleton. Added an engraved oval potrait of Jan van Galen by J. Houbraken. Both mounted on one board with label Atlas van Amsterdam van D.C. Meijer Jr. Muller, Portretten, 1770k; 1768h.
