Bishop. - Stavorinus (1739-1788), captain and rear admiral of the Admiralty of Zeeland, travelled for the Admiralty and for the Dutch East India Company to the Indies. His accounts were published by his son. 'This work affords an accurate and valuable account of the Cape in the last quarter of the eighteenth century, with an interesting description of Cape Town and its inhabitants' (Mendelssohn). Including also large accounts of Batavia and Bengal. - A key work on the Dutch in Africa and in the East. - Last 3 leaves sl. waterstained otherwise a fine copy. - Very rare.
