LAMIE, L.A.H. - De Nederlandsche Poolexpeditie in de Kara-zee.

Title: De Nederlandsche Poolexpeditie in de Kara-zee.
Description: Amsterdam., C.L. Brinkman, Utrecht, J.L. Beijers, 1884. Original cloth, spine gilt. With folding plate and large folding coloured map. 101 pp. Tijdschrift KNAG. - A scientific team of five people was put together under the leadership of Maurits Snellen. The Varna was chartered in Norway and this steamship departed on July 5, 1882. The expedition ship became stuck in the ice of the southwestern Kara Sea. The entire observation program was, out of necessity, carried out on the ice. The Varna was badly damaged and would sink in July 1883. After the ship sank, the entire team, 23 men, equipped with sleds and sloops, left for the south. On their way to the Siberian mainland they were picked up by the ship Louise in October, and the expedition members were enthusiastically welcomed to the Netherlands.
