Description: Hilversum, Verloren, 1998. Wrappers. With illustrations. 125 pp. Two letters written by the 37-year-old poet and lawyer Aernout van Overbeke from Batavia in 1669. The first to his four friends: Clara van Vlooswijck, Eva Hasselaer, Alida Tromp and Adriana Brasser. The second to his to his 'Brothers, Friends and Acquaintances'. In these letter he reports in a burlesque way of his journey on the VOC ship Zuidpolsbroek, where he was the highest authority as chief merchant. The purport of both letters is the same, but the letters are different stylistically and substantively.
