Cruikshank served on the Gold Coast of Africa (Southern Ghana) from 1834-1854 and was a member of the first Legislative Council of the Gold Coast, as well as the first Collector-General of the colony. The work offers insight into the judicial system, music, religion, dance, and social customs of the native people. Cat.
