Richly illustrated introduction to the art of fortification. The copper plates show fortifications of all kinds, siege machines, various war equipment, as well as deployment plans and formation schemes. This work by Rieger, a Jesuit, who also wrote an analogous work on civil architecture, is actually a military encyclopaedia". Occasionally foxed and browned paper. Frontispiece with a worm hole damage in upper corner (with minor loss of image). Former flyleaf and binding at the inside also damaged. Binding slightly rubbed and bumped, and some visible restauration marks. Small stamp at tille, some remarks in ink in an old hand. Some of the folding plates protrude from the block. All in all a good copy of the first edition (ask for photo's). Price according to condition.
