Title: Weber's Volkskalender für das Jahr 1850, 1851, 1852, 1853, 1854, 1855, 1856, 1857 and 1858
Description: Leipzig, J. J. Weber, 1849/1857. First 9 volumes published, bound in linnen with gilt decoration to the spines. Total weight: ca. 2,7 kilos. Each calendar consists of ca. 170 pages (at least 144 pp, at most 210 pp). The calendar itself is to be found at the beginning of each volume and is paginated in roman numerals (except for 1850, in which it is paginated like the other pages). The calendar itself is ca 20-30 pp. per volume. Each calendar measures ca. 20x13 cm (sizes differ slightly). The Volkskalender ('popular calendars') were much more than just a calendar: it was a great source of information for its readers. It consisted of a history calendar (stories from the past, persons from the past, etc), a part on politics, a part on (other) countries and their people, information on natural history and some more. The volumes are all decorated with illustrations, one is to be found in the majority of the pages. Also some pages with tables and maps. Condition: good, with traces of use. The spines are discoloured and sun faded. Spines with slight wear in top and bottom, slightly more wear to the spine of 1853 in the bottom and 1854 in the top. Some wear to the margins and corners of the covers (slight bumps) and some scuffs and stains on the covers. The book blocks are generally well bound, some volumes slightly loose in their binding. All volumes with foxing and discoloured papers on the inside. Some dog ears, scuffs on the pages, traces of folds, traces of moisture, old ink stains and pencil traces.
