Although the front cover and title page state "48 coloured plates" - only 44 coloured plates by Margaret W Tarrant are actually listed, gift message to half title page, spotting to title page and occasionally throughout. Colour illustrated endpapers. Grey cloth with black title to front and spine and oval coloured plate inset to front board, edges of boards rubbed and corners bumped. Good. ** "Margaret Winifred Tarrant (1888 – 29 July 1959) was an English illustrator, and children's author, specializing in depictions of fairy-like children and religious subjects. She began her career at the age of 20, and painted and published into the early 1950s."(Wiki).
