Spine with 5 raised bands, gilt decorated compartments, black leather title label and gilt owner's name to base: "T. M. Tremain". Grey marbled endpapers. Engraved portrait frontis, facing an engraved title-page, followed by a printed title-page (undated). Clean text and illustrations throughout, just a few marks and blemishes to the margins from previous use. VG. ** " Peter Nicholson (20 July 1765 – 18 June 1844) was a Scottish architect, mathematician and engineer. Largely self-taught, he was apprenticed to a cabinet-maker but soon abandoned his trade in favour of teaching and writing. He published his first book (at the age of 27); The Carpenter's New Guide in 1792, illustrating it with plates engraved by his own hand.
