The original was written in a small quarto notebook, and given by Susannah Whatman to her son James's wife, then being passed down through the family. Susannah was married to the great Kentish papermaker, James Whatman. 24.5cms x 17cms. Pp.40 [paper made by the present proprietors of the 'J.Whatman' watermark, Messrs W & R. Balston of Maidstone]. Gilt title label to front board. Edges lightly rubbed. Gift dedication to front endpaper: "To Mrs & Mr. Brown with all good wishes. T. Balston. Christmas 1952". Clean text and engravings throughout.
