Description: London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1963. 2nd impression. In 1952, Father Joe tooke over one of the worst slum parishes in England - St Paul's, Dock Street, Stepney. At first his energies were devoted to rebuilding the bomb-damaged church, but he soon turned his attention to more pressing human problems - from providing Christmas dinners for the old and infirm; to slum clearance; and vice rackets. Pp.192, 8 pages of black & white photos, inscribed "For Father S. Hensman(?) with affection and gratitude with every blessing Joseph Williamson Sept.17th 1969. Lord be a lantern to my feet, a light to my path - show me the way to go" to title page. Black cloth, dustwrapper slightly rubbed. VG/VG.Plus: Handwritted letter from the author using a response letter of the Wellclose Square Fund Limited for the Rescue of Prostitutes and Girls in Moral Danger -marking the 10th Anniversary of the Rescue Work; a signed receipt from said fund; a 4 page leaflet advertising the book and containing Father Joe's BBC broadcast for th 'Week's Good Cause' of Whit Sunday 1968; and a typed copy of a letter received from a 'rescued' woman called Anna, which has sun discolouration to edges.
