Well bound in red calf. Both boards with dulled gilt decorated border. Front board with dulled gilt title: "Un Retour D'Australie. Or Something Like A Nugget. By Lyulph." Board corners and top & tail of spine carefully strengthened. Smooth spine with similar gilt title: "Un Retour D'Australie." All page edges gilt. Inner gilt dentelles. Marbled endpapers. Engraved Armorial bookplate to the verso of the front board: "Henry Robert Lumley"; with motto "Murus Aeneus Conscientia Sana" ('A sound conscience is a wall of brass'). The printed text begins on p.89 (un-numbered): "Romans. - Un Retour D'Australie - Chapitre I." Text ends on p.128 (un-numbered) with a poem: "Poesie. - La derniere rose de l'ette. (The last rose of summer) by J. Ernault." ** N.B.: British Library shows that Lumley also published the 'ChristmasStory' (1868); and 'Something like a Nugget' (1868), which was issued as a drama in four acts in the same year, and went into a second edition ; a play entitled Savage (also in prose, 1869) ; and 'As You Like It,' a Christmas story illustrative of a great sovereign (1874).
