The ordinary collections of the work of a Kempis do not contain the Chronicle, although there is no doubt as to the authenticity of the book, which is of considerable importance to students of the movement known as 'The New Devotion', and to those who are interested in the Brotherhood of the Common Life. Top edge gilt, rough-cut page edges. Pp.xvi/234, title page in red and black, decorated head and tail pieces to chapters and historated capitals, some pages uncut, owner's name to front free endpaper, small bookseller's inkstamp to inside front board, spotting to preliminaries and front and rear endpapers as well as to closed page edges. Blue cloth, gilt oval motifs to front and rear boards, gilt title to spine, edges rubbed. Good.
