G+. ** "The concept of an ecumenical Church of South India, in which Anglicans would combine with non-episcopal Protestant Churches, was raised in 1920 at the Sixth Lambeth Conference. Eliot was one of several conservative Anglicans to argue against such a union. In January 1943 (ten months before this pamphlet was published), he was one of a deputation to the Archbishop of Canterbury, William Temple, to discuss the matter. (Temple was a supporter of the scheme, and published a reply to Eliot's pamphlet in 1944).
