Myers was born in Leckhampton House, Cambridge into a cultured family; his father was the writer Frederic William Henry Myers (1843-1901) and his mother the photographer Eveleen Tennant (1856 -1937. He was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was on the edge of the Bloomsbury group, and knew L. P. Hartley, Aelfrida Tillyard and Max Plowman. He kept up a lengthy correspondence with Olaf Stapledon. Other friends were David Lindsay, Frank Dobson,[ and Charles le Gai Eaton. By an anonymous loan he helped George Orwell travel to Morocco in 1938, to convalesce from tuberculosis. First published in 1940, this Indian tetralogy set in the late 16th century at the time of Akbar the Great, attempts an exploration of the perennial human problem; How to live? Shall the individual assert his uniqueness or compromise with the multitude? Or must he race beyond the immanent, and seek, as Amar does or would fain do, the transcendent? A feeling of embittered despair also emerges from this monumental work. Four years after its publication Myers committed suicide. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 950 pages. Top edge purple.
