Whilst the river as a whole covers such a wide area it is as a Fenland river with extensive drainage and water conservation systems that the Great Ouse is usually considered. Rodney Tibbs has written "Fenland River" not so much as a guide book, in which role it is however exceptionally good, but as a book covering many aspects including angling, boating, wild life, drainage, conservancy, history and topography. The large number of photographs are of a high standard and capture the atmosphere of the river and the towns and countryside through which it flows.
