Two matching volumes in half-leather with green spines, with black and red labels and gilt decoration, green corners, marbled covers, marbled end-papers and red block edges. Corners and spine-ends are worn and external joints are well-rubbed, spines are rubbed, covers are lightly rubbed. Binding is sound, pages are clean. Both volumes have a plain title-page and a decorated title with dates of January 3 1852 and July 1852 on the latter (Vol. I - The Landing of the Saxons in Britain, Vol. II - Pope Urban II Preaching in the Market-Place of Clermont). Volume II has two fold out illustrations mounted on linen backings, Funeral Procession of the Late Duke of Wellington Nov 18, 1852 opposite page 345 and Interior of St. Paul's Cathedral During Interment of the Duke of Wellington, November 18, 1852. Very many full page and vignette engraved illustrations. Includes loose pristine advertising flyers for The Science of Botany/The First Volume of the Illustrated Exhibitor and Magazine of Art and also The Illustrated Exhibitor Almanack for 1853/The Popular Educator, Vol. I (4), 412, (4), 408. 2-volume set (complete).
