Act passed under the Government of Lord Liverpool in a year when domestic unrest was rife in the UK and just after the Pentrich Uprising in June was suppressed by the Army, Habeus Corpus had been suspended and Luddite unrest was still present. The Act provides for: His Majesty may suspend the training and exercising the Militia; His Majesty may order Quotas of Militia of Great Britain to be fixed before the next Period specified in recited Act; Persons enlisting Militia Men for the East India Companys Service subject to the Penalties of recited Act; Militia-men offering to be enrolled for another Parish subject to Punishment under recited Act for enlisting into another Regiment etc; Number of Serjeants, Corporals and Drummers to be retained in the Militia on Pay when not in actual Service.
