Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Full Title: "The Complete English Lawyer or Every Man His Own Lawyer, Containing a Summary of The Laws and Constitution of England; Taken principally from the Writings of Blackstone, Burn, Coke, Littleton, Viner, Raymond, and other Authors. To which will be annexed or incorporated with the Work, the Laws and Satutes relative to Master and Servant, Husban and Wife, Guardian and Ward, Landlord and Tenant, Lodgers, Parish Officers, Arrests for Debts, Bankrupts, Distress for Rent of Other Dues, Wills and Codicils, Bills of Exchange, Income Tax, Assessed Taxes, &c. &c. The whole carefully compiled and the Statutes digested and brought down to the 50th George III. inclusive." Unstated edition with indications of being the first or second edition. The earliest editions do not include A Whellier or Gifford as the author but only "a Student of the Inner Temple" as here. From about the third edition the printer for the work is given as "MacDonald & Son" whilst here it is D Jacques. The work shows Statutes etc. to 50th George III which is common to a number of early editions, later editions include statues to later dates. No date is given by the publisher so the latest statute date is given a a probable/earliest date. Pagination and contents are: Free front end-papers [2]; obverse and frontis portrait of Sir William Blackstone; title [2]; Preface iii-iv; (Part I) Book I. Of Private Wrongs 5-127; Book II. Of Public Wrongs 128-269; Book III Of the Rights of Persons 270-250; Book IV. Of the Rights of Things 351-527; [1]; Part II 529-722, Index [6]; rear free end-papers [4]. Full leather with minor decoration at edges, missing spine-label, wer at head of spine, light scuffing on corners and rubbed elsewhere, some cracking of leather over external joints but covers are securely attached. End-papers and lightly foxed and a little darkened, at the front are the hand-written names of "John Walker" and "John Abbott, Cliffe, July 2? 1874". Occasional light foxing in the margins. Probable.
