Thomas Burns (1796 - 1871) was a prominent early European settler and religious leader of the province of Otago, New Zealand. Arriving on the Ship Philip Liang 1848. He established the presbyteries of Dunedin, Clutha and Southland. He helped establish both Otago Boys' High School and Otago Girls' High School during the 1860s, and became Chancellor of the University of Otago. CONDITION Blue cloth with gilt titles, folded cyclostyled sheet laid in for tercentenary (300 years) Covenentor service held 1926 at Thomas Burns' own First Church of Otago with sketch illus of same to cover, Black eps, name stamp of noted NZ historian Brydon Speedy inside front, 292 pages 7 plates and one map. Bright and crisp copy with slight musty odour, light dust spotting to edges, cnrs a little curved. DJ has chips, tears and some loss at spine ends and tips due to thin paper type. Near Fine/Very Good.
