Venables served in the Medical Corps of the New Zealand Army in the Solomon Islands and New Caledonia in WWII. During this time he produced many watercolours of soldiers, aircraft, landing craft and the paraphernalia of war. He exhibited in the 1952 Exhibition of Official War Paintings by New Zealand Artists. CONDITION End pages and cover are illustrated by linocuts. pp 189 with 49 hand printed illus including some colout illus and coloured lino cuts.
