Title: Twopence Coloured Poems By Charles Spear
Description: Christchurch, New Zealand, The Caxton Press. 1951, First Edition. Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Very rare. Charles Spear (1910-1985) is one of the few genuine exotics in the garden of New Zealand poetry. Emerging from obscurity in the late 1940s in Landfall, Arachne and the New Zealand Poetry Yearbook, Spear published a single volume. He was a lecturer in English at the University of Canterbury. He was close friend to publisher Denis Glover, held in High esteem by James K Baxter who mentions him in his Complete Prose V 4 and friends with the artist and Landfall illustrator Leo Bensemann. CONDITION Brown cloth with paper title flag to front (clean and unworn, with some tape ghosting to rear fronm protective cover?) 60 pages are bright and crisp with foxing to end pages, name iside front. Very Good/No Jacket.
