Roger Casement British diplomat of Irish extraction, humanitarian activist, and Irish nationalist. His efforts during World War I to gain German military aid for the 1916 Easter Rising which sought to gain Irish independence which led to his being tried for treason. Before his trial the British government circulated excerpts said to be from his private journals, which detailed explicit homosexual activities which undermined his case for clemency. CONDITION Blue cloth (faded to edges and buffed through cloth to front lower cnr) pp xi 275 with 17 b/w photos and illus plates. Internally bright and clean with small book sellers stamp at bottom of title page, name crossed out in black ink to front free end page. Good/No Jacket.
